Follow industry news in a channel

How-toFor adminsReviewed Guides: News feeds (RSS), Workspace settings

A channel that collects the news your team cares about saves everyone checking a dozen sites. Setting one up takes a few minutes.

  1. Make the channel. Create a public channel such as #industry-news, and add the people who should follow it. A partner’s status page fits better in the channel where your team handles shipping or support, like #ops.
  2. Find the feeds. Most news sites, blogs and status pages have one. You don’t need the exact feed address: the website’s address is enough when its pages link to their feed.
  3. Add each feed. In Workspace settings → Integrations & apps → Integrations → News feeds, click Add feed, paste the address and click Find feed. Check the newest items look right, pick the channel and click Add feed.
  4. Quiet the busy ones. A trade paper posting thirty stories a day drowns the channel. Edit the feed and fill in Only post items about with the words that matter to you, like assam, darjeeling, freight. Only stories with one of them post.
  5. Talk about it in threads. When a story matters, reply under its card: the conversation stays next to the article.

Feeds are checked every 15 minutes, less often while they’re quiet. To see a new item right away, use Check now from the feed’s ⋯ menu. See News feeds for the details.

  • Settings say Not answering. The site is down or the feed moved. Freesbe keeps trying, less often, and pauses the feed after 3 days. Once the site is back, click Check now.
  • The feed is fine but nothing posts. Check its keywords: items without one of them are skipped. Clear Only post items about to post everything again.
  • It’s turned off. The feed shows Off; open its ⋯ menu and click Turn on.
